Let Us Cross Over To The Other Side | Joseph Davis

In this powerful word from Glorious Way Church, Mark chapter 4 is unpacked to explore the lesson Jesus taught his disciples through the parable of the sower and the story of the storm on the sea. Using the theme of "2026: The Year of New Things," listeners are reminded that crossing over into what God has for them is not optional, and that storms along the way are simply tests of faith, not signs of failure. Just as Jesus declared "Let us cross over to the other side" with full authority and confidence, believers are encouraged to trust the word that has already been spoken over their lives and speak to every storm that rises against their breakthrough, knowing that getting to the other side is not just about personal blessing but about the lives that will be transformed because you showed up in faith.
Opening Prayer And Declaration
SPEAKER_00Hold up our Bibles, make uh make the devil mad and make Jesus glad, and just repeat after me, Father. Thank you for the word that I'm about to receive tonight. Thank you, Father, that your word is alive, sharper than any two-edged sword, rightly dividing, and bringing transformation into my life. And I thank you, Father, for the word that I'm gonna receive here tonight.
unknownThank you for the word that I'm receiving tonight.
SPEAKER_00In Jesus' name. Amen. Amen.
2026 And The Promise Of New
SPEAKER_00And so I'm excited about the word, and I believe it's going to um to bless you tonight. Um, and I want to um, you know, we've been um here at Glorious Way Church, we've been uh been just excited about all that God is doing here at Glorious Way Church. Uh at the beginning of the year, Pastor uh delivered a word that he received from the Lord that uh 2026 was the year of new things. Uh, and and uh I'm excited because it seems like every time I I get to teach, uh I get to be the new things cheerleader. And so 2026 is the year of new things, and so tonight I want to bring a message to you along those same veins, but I want to bring it to you through the lesson uh that Jesus taught to the disciples over in the book of Mark, chapter four. That's where we're gonna camp out tonight. We're gonna look at uh the teaching uh that Jesus did, and boy, he did a lot of teaching uh because he spent a great deal of time teaching the disciples, uh, but he taught in parables, and so he taught in in parables to the multitudes, but when he was with the disciples, he explained the parables of the mysteries. And so I want to look at that tonight because I believe there's a lesson there to be learned, uh, and I believe we can apply that lesson today in our lives, especially when we apply it through the lens of 2026 being the year
The Parable Of The Sower
SPEAKER_00of new things. And so let's go to Mark chapter 4, and we'll begin at verse 1. Uh, verse 1 and chapter 4 says, and he and again he began to teach by the sea, and a great multitude of had had was gathered uh to him, so that he got into a boat and sat on it, and sat in it on the sea, and the whole multitude was on the land facing the sea. Verse 2, then he taught them many things by parables uh and said to them in his teachings, Listen, behold, a sower went out to sow. And it happened as he sowed that some seed fell by the wayside, and the birds of the air came and devoured it, some fell on stone on stony ground where it did not have much earth, and it immediately sprang up because it had no depth of earth, uh no depth of earth. But when the sun was up, it was scorched, and because it had no root, it withered away. And some seed fell on among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, that sprang up, increased and produced, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred. And he said to them, He who has ears to hear, let him hear. Verse 10, the purpose of the parables. But when he was alone, he was alone with the disciples, to uh when he was alone, those around him with the twelve uh asked him about the parable. And he said to them, To you it will be given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God. Now I just I let's just stop there for a minute because I believe we're in a season now where God is revealing mysteries of his kingdom. I believe that there are things that have been not hidden from us, but have been hidden for us, and now is the time to receive revelation. And as you dive into God's word daily and spend time with him, I believe he's gonna reveal some mysteries to you. He's gonna reveal some things to you that he has reserved for you for such a time as this. And he answered, and uh, he uh but when he was alone, uh those around him, he said to the twelve, uh him about um who asked him about the parable, he said to them, To you it will it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God, but to those who are outside all things come in parables. So that they seeing that that they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand, lest they should turn and their sins be forgiven of them. In other words, that was not for just anyone, but it was for those who were in him, those who were in Christ. And then we go on to verse 13, and where he talks about the parable of the sower, explaining. So he begins to explain, and he said to them, Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? And he goes on, he says, The sower sows the word, and these are the ones by the wayside, and these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their heart. Say immediately. That's the devil's job, to come immediately and take the word that has been sown in your hearts. You know, 2026, the year of new things, was a word that we received. And I know many of us here at Glorious Way Church got a hold of that and just hit that in our heart and just begin to meditate on that and reflect on that. And Pastor gave us some instruction. Not only did he give us that word, but he gave us some instruction. The first thing that he gave us was the instruction of ask the Lord what you need to do to receive or to position and posture yourself to receive your new thing. But how many of you know that the devil wants to come immediately to steal? To steal the word, to steal the assignment, to steal the path. And so Jesus went on to say that immediately, let's see, let me find my verse was. Oh, over here. Okay. The seeds of the word, and the ones by the wayside where the word is sown, when they hear Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness, and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when the tribulation or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately, there's that word again, they stumble. Now these are the ones sown among thorns, they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of the world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things, entering entering in, choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word accept it and bear fruit, some thirty, some sixty, some a hundredfold.
Mysteries Revealed To Disciples
SPEAKER_00And so then he spent a great deal of time talking to the disciples, explaining the parables, making sure that they are getting the richness of the word. He's exposing mysteries to them that others don't get. Now, what's interesting about that, I believe there was a very important lesson that was taught to the disciples in that time of teaching, that time where they spent, uh, the inner circle spent time with him. And I believe he was explaining some things to them and showing some things to them. And it was interesting that he picked the sower as the example to illustrate the teaching. And so I, as I was reflecting on that, I thought, well, let me look up the word. What is a sower? A sower is a person, machine, or device that scatters seed over the earth for the purpose of growth. And so Jesus was using the example of a sower because he wanted the disciples to experience growth. And so there was a lesson being taught, and we're gonna see here in just a minute if the disciples got the lesson. JD and your neighbor, I'm gonna get the lesson. Amen. I'm gonna receive the lesson. So let's go back to Mark chapter 4 and we'll we'll pick up in verse 35. And so Jesus has spent all of this time talking about parables, he's explained some things, he's talked about the parable of a mustard seed, he's talked about um, he's talked about being a light and not hiding your light and the parable of the growing seed. So he has given them some extensive teaching. So how many of you know with every teaching or every lesson comes a test? But aren't you glad as believers we can have our test be an open book test? Did you know that every test can be every test in life is an open book test if you're a believer? Or you say, well, how's that, Pastor Joseph? Open the book. Well, what book am I talking about? I'm talking about his book. Everything that you need, every answer that you need is in the book. So if you find yourself in a test, if you find
The Test After The Teaching
SPEAKER_00yourself going through a test, open the book. It's an open book test. Amen. And so in verse 35, here comes the test. Verse 35, on the same day when evening had come, he said to them, now Jesus had been teaching all day, now it's evening, and he says, When evening had come, he says, Let us cross to the other side. Now, when they had left the multitude, they took him along in their boat as he was, meaning Jesus just finished and just got in the boat. And other little boats were also with him, and a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat so that they were that it was already filling. But he was in the stern asleep on a pillow. And they awoke him and said to him, Teacher, do you not care that we're perishing? Then he arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. But he said to them, being the disciples, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? So just reading those passages of scriptures, we see that they didn't quite pass the test, did they? Now let's go back and look at some things in these passages of scriptures because I want to give you some points here. And if you're making notes tonight, the message titled is Let Us Cross Over to the Other Side. In other words, Jesus had been teaching all day, giving them enlightenment and wisdom and insight and using parables and explaining the parables. And so then a test comes and he says, Let us cross over to the other side. And so I want to point out some things. First of all, we see on the day, look, verse 35, on the day when evening had come, and he said, Let us cross over to the other side. That was not a question in terms of, well, let's see if we can make it, or maybe we'll try it, or do you think we can make it? It was an absolute statement. Let us cross over to the other side. In other words, he was saying, we're going to the other side, and the point I want to make here is this crossing over is not optional. In this year of 2026 being the year of new things, crossing over into your new thing is not optional. Jesus
Crossing Over Is Not Optional
SPEAKER_00said, Let us cross over. In other words, he said, he didn't say, You think we make it? He said, Do you think we can make it? Or let's try it and see if we can make it. He said, We're going to the other side. Time to move on to a new thing. In other words, I've been doing this all day, so now it's time to shift focus and direction and move this way to the new thing. In other words, his time in that place was done. Now there's a parallel there that I don't want you to miss because when he said, Let's move, 2026 was the word, 2026, the year of new things was the word we received. And so, in order to get to the new thing, there's got to be some movement. You've got to move from where you were to where you need to be. And so, in other words, Jesus was saying, Our time here is finished, let's move on. And so that's the first point I want to make that crossing over is not optional. Verse 36. Now, when they had left the multitude, they took him along in the boat as he was, and the other boats were also with him. In verse 37, comes the part that's most interesting. And a great windstorm arose. Say great windstorm. And the waves beat into the boat said it so that it was already filling. Now, looking at this, you can see several things going on. And the first thing that that crossed my mind was that these disciples, at the at the at the commandment of Jesus, saying, Let us go to the other side. Now, they're probably thinking, now he's Jesus. Now he should have known the weather was going to be bad, you think? But they get in the boat, they're going across to the other side, and this all of a sudden this storm comes out of nowhere. And the Bible says, one translation says it was contrary. In other words, it was not just a little waves in the water. This was a rough storm. This was so bad that the boat was filling up. Now, here's something I want to point out in this, because there's a very, really, a really, really important point here, and that is this. When you make the decision that you're gonna act on in faith and cross over to the other side, crossing over or going over does not automatically exempt you from going through. Well, Pastor Joseph, what does that mean? In other words, what I'm saying is this just because you're going through and you're walking in faith and obedience and doing what God tells you to do doesn't mean you may not run into some rough waters. Does not mean that you may not have a few challenges along the way. In other words, it doesn't mean that there may not be some opportunities for your faith to be tested. Oftentimes with a new level, you hear people, I used to hear people say, with a new level comes a new devil. With a new level or a new thing comes an opportunity for the enemy to see how bad you want that new thing. Or to see if there's an opportunity for him to steal it. Look at how this was how this storm was described. A great windstorm. This was really bad. Rough waters. In other words, they were right in the middle of something, and I love this because I was, as I was reading this, I was thinking about the message that Pastor taught on Sunday night. And if you did not get that message, and if you were not here on Sunday night, I encourage you to go back and listen to that. Uh you can listen to it on the podcast, and the message was called Courage During Crunch Time. And it was a powerful message because now we see that these disciples were right in the middle of crunch time. Jesus said, Let us go to the other side. We've got in the boat, we're going with Jesus to the other side, but I'm not sure we're gonna make it to the other side because the boat's filling up. And how do we know that that's what they were thinking? Because we go on to read that. Actually, before I before I we we go on and read that in verse 38,
Going Over Doesn’t Skip Going Through
SPEAKER_00it tells us that Jesus was in the boat asleep. And the disciples wake him up in a panic, in a state of panic. Teacher, teacher, teacher, do you not care that we're parishing? Oh, we're gonna drown. We're gonna drown. Don't you care? But what's interesting is it's it's it's it's uh it's interesting to me is this because Jesus even said in John chapter 16, verse 33, he said, These things have I spoken to you. That in me, you may have peace in the world. You will have tribulation. Again, just because you're going through, just because you're going to, doesn't mean you're exempt from going through. He said, You're gonna have tribulation, you're gonna have tests, you're gonna have trials, you're gonna have troubles, you're gonna have boats full of water. You may have an opportunity where it looks like the boat's gonna sink and you're gonna drown. Don't look like you're not gonna make it over to the other side. But he didn't stop there. He said, But be of good cheer, for I've overcome the world. In other words, Jesus is saying, Don't worry about how it looks. I've already dealt with it. I've already overcome it, I've already dealt with the trouble in this life, I've already dealt with the trouble for this journey. How do we know that? Because in verse 38, we says that when Jesus got in the boat, after he'd already given the edict, he'd already given the command, he'd already said, here's what we're gonna do, this is how it's gonna end. We're going to the other side. Wake me up when you get there. Where was he? In the boat sleep. Now there's a lot there. There's a lot to unpack there because he's gotten in the boat, he said, we're going to the other side. I'm going to take a nap. Wake me up when you get there. All of a sudden, they get in the middle of the water. This storm comes. This great storm calms. So much the water and the waves are so rough that it's rocking the boat, it's filling the boat. Looks like they're gonna seek it, they're gonna sink, and the disciples are losing their minds. Ah and we only got one life preserver on this boat, and there's six of us on the boat. And Jesus, all along, is asleep. In the boat, he's asleep. Point number three: the reason Jesus could get in the boat after he had said what they were going to do and where they were going and go to sleep was because the word. Jesus was the word. He is the word. The word had already spoken, their destination was already set. I want to remind you that when Pastor gave us the word from the Lord, your destination was set. The word had already been spoken. Now, it doesn't matter what happens along the way, your destination is already set. The word's already been spoken. 2026, the year of new things. In other words, we're gonna get to the other side. Where's your new thing? On the other side. Where's your breakthrough? On the other side. Where's the change that God wants to do in your life? On the other side. Where's the restoration? On the other side. But in order to get to the other side, you're gonna have to get in the boat with the word. The destination. The word had already spoken. Their destination was already set. And the reason Jesus could get in the boat and go to sleep was because confidence in the word, He was the Word, He was the authority. I've already said how it's gonna be. We are going to the other side. Confidence in the Word causes you to rest in the midst of what appears to be a storm. Confidence in His Word caused him to lay down and go to sleep. Psalm 23, 4 says, Ye do I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. In other words, yea do I walk through what appears to be death. Yedo I walk through what appears to do me in, to take me out. Looks like I may be going on under instead of going over. Looks like this one's gonna finally do me in. Well, no, that's not what the word says. Yeda, I walk through, going through,
Resting Because The Word Spoke
SPEAKER_00going to the other side. I once heard a teacher say it this way. You know, we know they were going, they were in trouble because they're in the water in the storm rush. I once heard this teacher say, if you catch hell, don't hold it. And if you're going through it, don't stop. David said, Yeah, I walk through. Not stopping in. Look, trouble is not the time to stop. Trouble is not buckies. Be selective about where you make your your pit stops. Yedo I walk through. And so confidence in the word. David said, Yeah, do I walk through the valley, valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you. Who's you? You, the word, are with me. The word was in the boat, asleep. He was with them. Now, what's interesting about that, as I said a minute ago, their destination had already been set. I want to remind you that your destination's already been set. It doesn't matter how rough the water gets along the way to the end of this year, your destination's already been set. Now, you can either get in the boat and ride the waves, catch the waves, surf, or you can let it take you under. You can wash out. Now, I'm not a surfer, but I know there are certain terms they use, or you can wash out. Your destination's already been set. 2026 is the year of your new thanks. And then the disciple, Jesus, don't you care that we're perishing? You know, that is the devil's job. The minute trouble comes, when you're on your way, to make you think Jesus doesn't care. To make you think he's not gonna save you. Oh, did you hear that doctor's report? That's really bad. You're not gonna make this. I don't believe Jesus is gonna heal you this time. That's his job to discourage you. That's his job to distract you. Why? Because he wants to take your focus off of the word. Do you have a word or a promise for your situation? Do you have a word or a promise for what God wants to do in your life this year? Well, how valuable is that to the kingdom of darkness? He knows it's got value, so what is his job to do? To steal it. John 10 10 says, For the thief comes, but to steal, to kill, and to destroy. And Jesus said, But don't get me mixed up with him, because I've come that you might have life more abundant. One translation says to overflowing. And so we know the thief wants to take your focus off of the promise. He wants to take your focus off of your destination, he wants to take your focus off of the end gang. His goal is to see that you never make it to the end gang. But how many of you read the back of the book and we win? One of my favorite scriptures is in the over in the book of Revelation when it talks about and they overcame him by the word, the by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. And can you imagine on that day when you you're looking at the troublemaker and he's about this high? The little G God of this world, and he's about this high, and you're looking at him and you're saying, That that's him? That that that's that was the source of my trouble? Wow. You know, I love it. When the Bible gives us insight on the devil, he's he he's not all of that. He's not even close to being any of that. The scripture describes him as a roaring lion. Well, what is a roaring lion? That is a toothless, defenseless lion. Usually it doesn't have any teeth. He's old, doesn't have any ability to fight, but all he's got is a roar. And he's hoping it's gonna be loud enough to scare you. But our God is greater, and his roar is greater, and his roar in you is greater. Don't you care that we're perishing? I love what our pastor says. And he just he we've adopted this. The minute he hears a report, if it's not a good report, it's not as bad as it looks. I love that. We've got to adopt that attitude. It's not as bad as it looks. But teacher, don't you care that we're perishing the boats taking water? You're not gonna drown. You may get your hair wet, but you're not gonna drown. Remember, I said we're going to the other side, so you're not gonna drown. We include me and you, so we're going to the other side. Let us. I can see Jesus said, I don't know about you, but I said I'm going to the other side. Now, you can go with me. Us going to the other side. What part of us going did you got did you miss? But look at the what? But you're not gonna drown. You're not gonna drown. Tell your neighbor, you're not gonna drown. You're gonna get to the other side. Verse 39. Then
Peace Be Still And Real Authority
SPEAKER_00he, who is he? The word, the authoritative one, the one who'd already set the course. In the destination. He arose. In other words, you woke me up, so I might as well deal with this. And he didn't get up and say, Oh, this is pretty bad. He just got up and said, Oh, okay, it's just peace, be still. I don't even think he rose his, I don't even think he raised his voice. He just spoke to it, peace, be still. Literally, he said, Quiet. Now it's interesting that the literal translation of peace be still means quiet. You woke me up. You disturbed my rest. Peace. Be still. Modern translation would be stop that. Depending on what side of town you're finding maybe get somewhere and sit down. Peace. Be still. He wasn't having any of that. And you know what? We shouldn't have any of that. The word says, whatsoever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven. Whatever we loose on earth will be loose. What are you allowing to stop you from getting to your new thing? What are you allowing to stop you from crossing over to the other side? The word's authority over the storm still quiets storms today. In other words, that word quieted the storm then, and that word will quiet the storm today. His word in your mouth in faith is just like him speaking it. And if it worked then, it'll work now. And if it's not working, you may want to check to see if you're applying it the right way. The word works. It hadn't changed, it hadn't stopped. His word, his authority in your mouth is just like Jesus speaking to the storm. And notice again, he didn't have to get up and go through all of this peace. Be still. That's just how powerful the word is. Literally, quiet. One word, quiet, be still. And then after he dealt with the storm, he turned his attention to the disciples. And he said to them, Why are you so fearful? Sometimes when we're going through things, we need to stop and check out why are you freaking out about this? Why are you losing your mind over this? Why are you stressing about this? Don't you know who you are? Don't you know whose you are? Don't you know what you have? Don't you know the authority that you have? We're called to be dev. Listen, the devil is a terrorist. And I don't negotiate with terrorists. That storm was an act of terror. Jesus wasn't, oh, Mr. Wynn, I just need you to calm down a little bit. You're scaring the fellows in the boat. No. There was no negotiation, only authority. You have that same authority. Fear is not a friend of faith. Now I'm not telling you something you don't know, but fear is not a friend of faith. Not a friend of faith. Jesus said, Why are you fearful? How is it that you have no faith? Now remember over in Mark, in in the earlier parts around chapter, uh in chapter four, around verse 19, where Jesus had been teaching and expounding on the parables and explaining. And let's go back to verse 19 of Mark chapter 4, because something very interesting shows up there that I think gives us an excellent example of why he's addressing. And the Lord said, now after everything that I just spent all of those hours, spent all day teaching, and you were right there getting a lesson, and now you're here and you're not passing the test. Mark chapter 4, verse 19 says this. Jesus is the parable of the sword. He's explaining it. And he's talking about all of the seeds sown and the different things where where they have crop failure. And in verse 19, well, let's back up. And he's talking about now, these are the ones sown among thorns. These are the ones that who hear the word. Now they'd heard the word all day. They'd heard it all day before they got in the boat. Isn't that interesting? Literally heard the word all day. They even got the extended version and the abridged version of it. Heard it all day. Get in the boat, little water comes, little water gets in the boat, boat rocks a little bit, and they're about to lose their minds. What did Jesus teach? And the cares of this world. Was there not a care of this world moment? The
Why Getting There Matters
SPEAKER_00storm and the cares of this world, that storm. You forgot what I told you about the storms. You forgot what I told you about the purpose of the storm. Wow, that's a powerful message right there. You forgot what I told you about the storm. The purpose of the storm and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things entering in, choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. Now, in order to understand the significance of going to the other side, you have to go to Mark chapter 5 to see all of the things that happened when Jesus got to the other side. First of all, there was a man who had been demon-possessed who got set free. So what does that say to me to say to you? It is imperative that you get to the other side. I said the first, but the first point that I gave was crossing over was not optional. And I'm going to end it with this point that it is imperative that you get to the other side. Why? Because there's somebody on the other side that needs what God has placed in you. Whether it be an anointing, whether it be a message. And he didn't stop there. After the man that was demon-possessed got delivered, then there was a girl who had died, got restored to life. We're living in a day and a time where people are dying, not just dying physical deaths, but spiritual deaths. And who's Jesus gonna, who's the Lord gonna use to bring life to those people? We have the life-giving word of Christ in us. Now you understand why the devil doesn't want you to get to the other side. And then, of course, there was a woman with the issue of blood. Now, had he not got the disciples didn't know that, but Jesus knew it. He knows what's ahead for you on the other side. And all he needs you to do at this point is get to the other side. And when you get to the other side, then he'll show you the next thing. But it's important that you get to the other side. Tell your neighbor, I'm going to the other side. Amen. Amen. And on the other side is something greater, far greater than you can imagine. Yeah, you may have to go through a little storm on the way, but the word is with you, the word is in you. And if you find yourself in the middle of a storm, wake up to work. And when you wake the word up, exercise the authority of the word. Speak to the storm. Don't negotiate, don't beg. Speak to the storm. Peace. Be still. Well, I pray that that blessed you. Amen. And you got something out of that? We'll cross it over. Amen. 2026, the year of new things. Amen. And we're gonna get to our new things.
