More Than Conquerors | Pastor John Greiner
“More Than Conquerors” is a message of faith, strength, and assurance in God’s constant presence during life’s challenges. Drawing from Psalm 46 and Romans 8, it emphasizes that believers are not just survivors but victors through Christ. Key principles include refusing to fear, staying full of joy, remembering past victories, trusting that God is working in the present, and being still to receive divine direction. No matter the trial—whether sickness, hardship, or fear—God has already secured the victory, making His people more than conquerors. The battle is not fought in striving but through faith-filled words and trust in God’s finished work.
Let's lift our Bibles up, wave them around and let's make Jesus glad and the devil mad. Say this together Say Heavenly Father, I'm so glad for Wednesday night. I'm here to top off my tank. I'm hungry for the Word, hungry for the Holy Ghost to shine His light on this Word so that my faith increases and my spiritual development gets more solid and I bring forth fruit in Jesus name. Amen, amen, all right, let's look at Psalm 46.
Speaker 1:Tonight we're going to haul off and read the whole thing. It's 11 verses, psalm 46, starting with verse one. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, will not we fear though the earth be removed and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea, though the waters roar thereof and be troubled, and though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah, there is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad. The city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most high God, is in the midst of her. She shall not be moved. God shall help her, and that right early, and in my margin, you know it. It says uh, uh, he, that he will do it when the morning appeareth. When the morning appeared, you know, it's sometimes nights get long, but I'll tell you, there always comes a morning and he's going to be there.
Speaker 1:The heathen raged and the kingdoms were moved. He uttered his voice. The earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah, think about it. Come behold the works of the Lord. What desolations he's made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease under the end of the earth. He breaketh the bow and cutteth the spear asunder. He burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the heathen. I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah, all right, and then I want to turn over to Romans, chapter eight and verse 35.
Speaker 1:Paul is asking the Roman church who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril or sword, as it is written, for thy sake, we are killed all the day long. We are counted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay see, he's saying no to all of that. He's saying no to that negative outlook. No, and all these things. What things? Nakedness, perils, tribulations, all of that and all these things, we are more than conquerors. Through him that loved us, praise God, and that's what I'm preaching on tonight. More than conquerors, we're all more than conquerors through him who loved us. And so you know you can depend on God in tough times. You know he is our refuge and strength, not going to be, not was. He is present, tense no matter what, no matter what's going on, he is our shelter, he is our high tower, he is a very present help in trouble, readily and most assuredly found. Isn't that good? Readily and most assuredly found, readily and most assuredly found.
Speaker 1:You know, tough times come to everyone. Jesus said it. He said in John 16, 33, in the world you shall have tribulation. Tough times, I mean you're going to have things that don't go your way. You're going to have things that you know, difficulties to that, challenges and so forth and so on, temptations, tests and trials. And the thing is tough times never last. You know they come and they go, but tough people do last, you know. And all these things, see, all these things that come against you, tough times.
Speaker 1:We are more than conquerors.
Speaker 1:How? Through him who loves us, through him who loves us. It's a simple message tonight. But I like to go over the simple things because this is a year of milestones and you know, paul once said you know there's a great door, and effect shall open unto me. And there are many adversaries. You know, the greater the opportunity that we have on the horizon, the greater the the the the resistance we're going to feel from the enemy. I mean, he's not going to just let us march through the open door. He's going to try to trip us up. He's going to try to get to us before we ever get there and then, if he can't do that, he's going to try to trip us on our way through. He's going to do whatever he can to stop it.
Speaker 1:And so tonight I just have a number of things that I base here on Psalm 46, on how to be more than a conqueror, how to be more than a conqueror, and I think very first one on the list in Psalm 46 and verse two I will not fear you can go back to Psalm 46 because we're going to refer to that one. These verses, I mean, you know I studied this years ago when I was going through things. It seemed like all the every day was another rhema. This was one of my rhemas. We sing a song there's a river, there is a river. It's one of my favorite songs to sing because it reminds me of all the deliverances God has given me. He's rescued me time and again, but in Psalms 46 too. Therefore, because he is our refuge and our strength, we will not fear. So the first thing on the list in order to be a conqueror do not fear.
Speaker 1:Do not fear, don't allow yourself to fear. Now your flesh will have a feeling of fear. I mean, I told someone recently when they got you know the word cancer was mentioned and they were diagnosed with it. I said well, now I know that your flesh reacted. I don't think anybody's flesh can just be neutral when they hear that report. But that doesn't mean you feared. You know you didn't let fear come out of your mouth. Unless you let it come out of your mouth, it dies stillborn. And it doesn't matter whether your flesh reacts to something. It doesn't matter whether your pulse rate increased or you're turned red or you had goose bumps or whatever. Whatever the flesh decided to do at the negative report or the negative circumstance, that's not fear. Fear is what you speak and believe in your heart. That's fear. Faith is what you speak and believe in your heart. That's fear. Faith is what you speak and believe in your heart, and fear, of course, is the opposite of faith. Fear is the enemy of faith. So do not fear.
Speaker 1:That phrase do not fear is named 60 times in the Bible Must be important. When you say I will not fear, you put God to work right there, you're putting God to work right there, and so tough times have to be answered with tough faith. You know, in 1 Corinthians 10, the Bible says there, Paul writing to the Corinthian church, there's no temptation, test or trial. We might as well just say trouble. There's no trouble that has taken you, but such as common to man, that God is faithful, who will not allow you to suffer trouble above what you're able to bear. I like to tell people, if you've got trouble in front of you, that must mean God says you can get through it, otherwise he wouldn't allow it. You know he's the great moderator. He will not let the devil attack you beyond your ability to resist him. He won't.
Speaker 1:And I know sometimes when you get a really bad report, you know something about your health. I mean, you know, when you've got stage four cancer, that's a pretty bad report. I mean, it's got. You know, time is ticking off and you don't have long to conquer it and it would seem, in those circumstances, gosh, I don't. I don't know if I have the faith to overcome this. You know that you start thinking about how you try to measure your own faith. But you know what better thing to think about is that if you're facing it, god already said okay, they can get through this. I wouldn't let this happen unless they were able to conquer it with their faith. So that should give you some strength right there.
Speaker 1:And then you know, I heard Wigglesworth said one time that if the trouble is so much greater than your faith, then the gift of faith is available. And the gift of faith is as the spirit wills. The gift of faith is different than your faith. Your natural faith is your faith cometh by hearing, hearing by the word of God. But you know, sometimes something suddenly comes on you. You didn't have any warning. I mean, this thing hits you in the face. Just look. I mean your natural faith, your faith that you were having up to this point might not look like it's enough, but God can give you the gift of faith to get you through it. I'll tell you, he doesn't play fair when it comes to the devil. You know where's your elbow. Where's your elbow? Bring it down on the little guy. So I heard Dr Roy Hicks say this one time.
Speaker 1:He was a preacher that came to Lakewood a few times in the early days and he said that God would sometimes give you something even though your faith was lacking, because he knows that you will have faith for it in the future. Now I don't know if I can prove that in the Bible, but you know what it sounds good to me. I believe I'll take that. I mean because I know God's on our side. He's for us, he's with us. You know he's not. You know he's not, he's not. It doesn't bring him glory for the devil to beat up on you and get the victory, and so he knows that you'll be diligent. When you've got something that's attacking you, you know he's going to be right there with you. He's a very present help in time of trouble.
Speaker 1:I want to read to you out of Hebrews 13. It's so powerful. And verse 5, second part of verse 5. For he hath said I will never leave you nor forsake you, so that we may boldly say the Lord is my helper. I'll not fear what man will do unto me. But I want to read to you out of the Amplified, and it's even better, it's just so good, all right.
Speaker 1:It says in the Amplified, for God himself has said I will not in any way fail you or give you up, nor leave you without support. I will not. I will not. I will not in any degree leave you helpless, nor forsake, nor let you down. Relax my hold on you assuredly not. So we take comfort in our encouraged and confidently and boldly say the Lord is my helper. I will not be seized with alarm, or I will not fear or dread or be terrified. What can man do to me? Come on, lift your hands. Glory to God. I mean. These are powerful, powerful words, and the word of God is your friend. The word of God is what you need to feed on when you're going through trouble, because he's going to take you through it and give you victory over it, more than a conqueror. So you know what kind of fear? Well, the fear of lack, fear of pain, the fear of public opinion. Sometimes is a mighty fear. Fear of what the boss is going to say, the fear of what our spouse is going to say. The fear of this, the fear of that, the fear of death is really behind all fear In Hebrews, chapter two.
Speaker 1:Oh, it's another powerful verse, hebrews two, verse 14. For as much, then, as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself, likewise, took part of the same. You know, jesus was flesh and blood. And let's see I'm gonna get it in the Amplified All right, that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil and deliver them who, through fear of death, were all their lifetime subject to bondage. But listen to it in the Amplified. Since, therefore, these, his children, share in flesh and blood and the physical nature of human beings. He himself, in a similar manner, partook of the same nature. That, by going through death, he might bring to naught and make of no effect Him who had the power of death that is the devil. And also that he might deliver and completely set free all those who, through the haunting fear of death, were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives. I mean, some of us, you know, we're just prone to being afraid, afraid of this, afraid of our shadow. And yet when we get the word of God in god, in us, you know we can gain the victory over fear.
Speaker 1:When you start reading verse 14, all the different versions. Brother mark hankins has got this beautiful book. It's got I don't know how many different versions of the bible and whole book. And I looked up hebrews 2, 14 and, and I can't tell you what version. But you know some of them say he rendered him irrelevant, he rendered him as if he was dead. I mean, it's like the devil's dead. Why are we worried about the devil? He's dead. That's how complete and total a victory that Jesus the conqueror. Jesus is the conqueror. Why are we more than conquerors? Because we didn't have to do that. He did it for us. So we're more than conqueror. Why are we more than conquerors? Because we didn't have to do that. He did it for us. So we're more than conquerors. We get to walk right behind him. He does all the dirty work and we get to enjoy all the benefits of the devil being like he's dead, hallelujah. That's why we can laugh in the face of trouble, hallelujah. He rendered the devil inoperative. He nullified him. He rendered him as though no longer existing. I love it, praise God. All right. So that's number one.
Speaker 1:Do not fear here, in Psalm 46, verse 4, stay full of joy. Stay full of joy. You know there is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad, the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High. Well, you know, the tabernacle of the Most High is right on the inside of us. I mean, when you're full of the Holy Ghost, you're filled with joy, you're filled with the spirit of joy, you know, and his presence is fullness of joy. Why? Because in his presence we're at his right hand. At his right hand there are pleasures forevermore. I mean, that's the seating when you realize, no matter what you're going through, the devil's trying to get you to believe that you're under his foot. No, he's under your feet. These circumstances are going to come to pass. They didn't come to stay and you're overcoming them. So you're full of gladness, you're full of joy. Not sadness, not madness, not frustration. The city of God, the holy place of the most high God is in you. Rivers of living water are available to flow out of your mouth. I mean that's part of your ability to do damage to. The spirit of darkness is trying to trouble you. So do not fear, stay full of joy.
Speaker 1:And then in verse six let's look at verse six. The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved. He uttered his voice, the earth melted. Now, what tense is that? Is it past, present or future? It's past, past tense, it's already happened. And so remember what God has done before. Always look back and think about the times that he's delivered you from similar things. Think about the victories that you've had. Think about what God did then. If he did it, then he'll do it again. But don't forget. See, this is what the children of Israel did. They forgot in the wilderness what God had done in Egypt. They forgot what he'd done in the field of Zohar and they limited the Holy One of Israel. They tied his hands hand, so to speak. Because why? Because they just got focused on the present trouble. They couldn't look back and see what god had done. God's already done great things for all of us. Uh, meditate on all the times he's delivered you.
Speaker 1:Recently, I told the story of moving to corpus Christi, and it was a permissive. It started out being the permissive will of God and then, one year later, it became totally out of the will of God. God was through with me and I stayed another six months so in the same place, in Corpus Christi, I knew what it was like to be in the permissive will of God, which is kind of like taking a bath with your socks on. Something's not right. I never could get complete peace. Every day was a struggle. Every day that I got up in the morning to pray, I had to break through this cloud, this heaviness, and I think I told the story.
Speaker 1:We lived across the street from a park and then you could look across the park into New Asus Bay. It was a beautiful view. I'd get up before daylight every morning, go out across the street and go into that park and lay on my back on a concrete picnic table, look up at the stars, look out over the water, look at the skyline of Corpus Christi, and I'd think about all the things that God had done, all the times he'd helped me. I just had to go back and remember all the things that he had done to give me comfort in the now, the present time. I was struggling. I didn't even understand why. I didn't even understand why that heaviness was there that I had to break through. I could break through it, but it took a lot of effort, more effort than it ever had before.
Speaker 1:And so, past tense. God's already done some things. Let's not forget what he's done in the past. And then over here in verse nine, what does it do? It says he makes wars to cease under the end of the earth. He breaks the bow and cuts the spear asunder. He burns the chariot in the fire.
Speaker 1:What tense is that one that's present tense. That's what he's doing right now. I mean, he is fighting for you. The battle is not mine, it's not yours, but it's mine, saith the Lord. I mean, he's the one that's putting the enemy on the run. He's using your faith and whatever you say, and Jesus is our high priest, and he causes all of our words to be executed. He stands behind everything we're speaking. So let's make sure we speak faith.
Speaker 1:So again, what I tell myself? Well, he did it before. He's doing it again right now. He's working it out right now. I mean, he's my very present help in time of trouble. He's present tense on the job. He's present tense taking up your cause and taking up your case. Hallelujah, you get anything out of this tonight. Thank God for the word.
Speaker 1:And then the last one here. So what do we do now we absolutely refuse to fear, we stay full of joy, we remember what he's done and know that he's doing it again. It's present tense. And the last one, verse 10,. Be still and know that I'm God. I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. That means you're going to have a testimony. You don't have it yet, but you're going to have one. Be still, get testimony. You don't have it yet, but you're going to have one. Be still, get direction, get strategy and then walk on knowing that he is God the conqueror. He's already conquered the devil, he's already put out the fire, he's already broken the bow, he's already snatched the arrow out of the air. And he's already done all of that. And then that makes you more than a conqueror, because you didn't have to do any of that. You didn't have to engage in any kind of physical or even spiritual war.
Speaker 1:I hear about the idea about spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare is just with your mouth. That's all it is. It's not, you know, it's not a bunch of effort to it. It's believing in the heart. And speaking with the mouth makes you more than a conqueror because you're walking in the victory. He already won for you. He's already won it. So this year of milestones, I'm telling you he's undertaking on your behalf and your milestones are on the way. You're all more than a conqueror. Come on, lift your hands and receive tonight Praise God. I pray that that encouraged you. I on, lift your hands and receive tonight, praise God. I pray that that encouraged you. I mean, you know, we just need a little encouragement from time to time. We all do. Hallelujah, thank you, lord. More than a conqueror, that's who we are.
